How to use PDF to Text

  1. Choose a PDF file.
  2. Select Extract Text.
  3. Review the preview for reading-order issues.
  4. Download extracted-text.txt for editing, searching or archiving.

What the tool creates

The extractor reads each PDF page through the browser PDF renderer, joins text items in reading order and adds page separators to the output.

The result is extracted-text.txt plus an on-page preview of the first portion of extracted text.

Common uses

  • Copying text from reports
  • Creating searchable notes from digital PDFs
  • Moving PDF text into another editor

Important limits

  • Scanned image-only PDFs need OCR, which this tool does not perform.
  • Columns, tables and complex layouts can produce an imperfect reading order.
  • Fonts with unusual character mapping can yield missing or incorrect text.

Privacy note: Supported processing runs in this browser tab. Do not process files you are not authorized to handle, and keep an original backup.

PDF to Text questions

Does this tool perform OCR?

No. It extracts existing PDF text and cannot read text that exists only inside images.

Why are columns mixed together?

PDF files often store text by coordinates rather than logical reading order.

Will formatting be preserved?

The result is plain text, so visual formatting, images and most layout are removed.

Can I copy the preview?

Yes. The preview is displayed in a read-only text area, and the full output is available as a download.

Does it extract every page?

Yes. Page separators identify the source page number.
